Where to get biodiesel in Maryland, Virginia, DC

Please use this forum to list locations biodiesel can be bought. If you have other info, such as hours, price, address, web site, etc, please also list it. There are a pair of fairly comprehensive lists here: http://www.biodiesel.org/buyingbiodiesel/retailfuelingsites/default.shtm and http://afdcmap.nrel.gov/locator/LocatePane.asp

Biodiesel is readily available in Maryland! Pure biodiesel (B100) is now available at the pump at the Amoco gas station in Easton, Md. The pump is open to the public and allows consumers to create their own biodiesel blends or to "stock up" for later use. The Easton Amoco is located on Route 50 (Ocean Gateway). Call (410) 822-7650 for hours and availability. B100 is also available at the Taylorsville Shell, located in New Windsor, Md., at the intersection of Route 26 & 27. Call (410) 875-0202 for hours. The Bare Truck Center on Route 140 near the intersection with Route 97 in Westminster, Md., offers B5 biodiesel. Call (410) 840-0666. This is a Cardlock location. Tevis Oil Co. is available at the same number for delivery info. Tri-Gas & Oil in Federalsburg, Md., can also arrange deliveries at (410) 754-8184.

I called Taylorsville Shell located in New Windsor, Md., at the intersection of Route 26 & 27, phone (410) 875-0202. Their B100 price was 2.999/gallon. I suppose it makes sense that Easton Amoco would be cheaper because the supplier, Tri-Gas, is just a couple of miles down the road.

I called Tri-Gas in Federalsburg, MD about a month ago. At that time, it was $3.06/gallon delivered. The price included about 45 cents of taxes because it would be used to fuel cars (call or write your representatives). The Maryland Soybean biodiesel rebate is a one time deal per customer of half the purchase price with a maximum $1000 per rebate. So that would make it about $1.53/gallon delivered after the rebate.

It`s a little less expensive because they bought theirs when the price was down and haven`t pumped any for more than a month now due to a clogged filter and the Md. Dept. of Weights and Measures has been screwing with them for a few weeks now. The delivery charge due to proximity to Tri-Gas should help also. They are up and running again, I`m headed there in the next few days with two 55 gallon drums and as many 5 gallon jugs as I can get my hands on. I will post the present price when I get it.

Easton AMoco is selling the heck out of BD. The guy running the place said they sold 300 gallons in one weekend in March. B100 is still $2.69/gallon.[:D]

Peninsula Oil, on the Shore, is now also offering biodiesel. There are at least two retail B20 locations -- both "Uncle Willie's" convenience stores. One is on Rt. 13 in Bridgeville. I'll check on the others. (They should be on the biodiesel.org site.) I think you get a free cup of coffee with a fillup right now! Peninsula Oil may deliver -- I'm not sure yet. Their main office number is (302) 629-3001.

Sometime soon the CITCO station at US Rts. 50 and 589 just east of Berlin will offer B100. And sometime later this summer CROPPER OIL, again on Rt. 50 less than two miles west of the previous location, will also dispense B100 at a retail pump. Details to follow. [:D]

There's a Liberty Gas Station in Harrisonburg, VA that is now selling B2. The price was $1.47/gal. It is located right off of I-81 exit 245, going east. They were open Sunday evening at 5:00pm when I went by, so I suppose their hours are pretty normal for a gas station.

Friends -- Just a last-minute reminder to FUEL UP and FILL OUT your rebate request forms, if you have participated in the Maryland Soybean Board's biodiesel rebate program this year (meaning: between Oct. 1, 2002 and Sept. 20, 2003). Fill out and send in your forms, postmarked by Sept. 30, please! Remember, you are eligible for a rebate during ONE fiscal year only -- and the end of the fiscal year is rapidly approaching! For those of you who have not applied yet, please wait until after Oct. 1, 2003, to apply for purchases made after that date. That way, you will have an entire year's eligibility and be able to maximize the rebate amounts you receive. The new program has the same minimums/maximums/restrictions/etc. One major change: this upcoming year, you have to save your receipts! The new forms for FY04 will be posted on the web at http://www.mdsoy.com/consumer/2%20page%20form.pdf and also distributed to our retail B100 sellers. As many of you have noted, the rebate check takes awhile to arrive. It has been in the neighborhood of 8 weeks this year. We ask for your patience and thank you for your continued support of biodiesel.

Called biodiesel distributor Tri Gas & Oil in Federalsburg, MD this morning before driving over for my 220 gallon purchase. They are completely out of B100! They are awaiting a delivery by train car, hopefully this week. Maybe this is why Easton is out as well? Called Taylorville Shell, as of this morning they had 800 gallons of B100 available. Price was 2.799 gallon.

Re: Where to get biodiesel in Maryland, Virginia, DC

I want to share some information about the possibility of a new future site for biodiesel in Jessup, MD. Jessup is southwest of Baltimore. There is a new green business center being built there and a biodiesel manufacturing plant is in the plans. I sent an email to Stanley Sersen for an update. Here is his reply: "It has been a long and difficult road but we are about a month from breaking ground on phase one of the Enviro-Center. We will be using Biodiesel as our heating source and will need to have it trucked in initially." "We are in the process of setting up the Non-Profit – EnviroFoundation which will allow it’s members to enjoy numerous benefits that will most likely include a type of co-op arrangement on Biodiesel. Since the building of the biodiesel production plant isn’t until Phase II and most likely at least one year further away, we are looking into getting the approvals for having a tank and single dispensing pump on site that we can initially buy biodiesel from other sources, store it on site and have it as fuel for members only. It is amazing the hurdles that must be jumped for this. Our zoning allows us to distribute what we make on site so once we get approvals to produce the B100 we’ll then be able to dispense it after already obtaining the approvals for the refill tank and pump." "Our main push, right now, is to simply get the office building going and relocate our offices. Once that happens then we can really focus on the rest of the site development which includes the biodiesel." "Thanks for hanging in there and for supporting Biodiesel. We look forward to hosting a TDI event." Stanley J. Re: Where to get biodiesel in Maryland, Virginia, DC

Biodiesel now in Baltimore, MD!!! I just bought (6) 5 gallon pails from Taylor Oil in Baltimore, MD @ $3.25 per pail (pail included). The manager, Sean Downey, is looking to start stocking the biodiesel again (previous attempts fell short due to demand). It is a little tricky to find the place, make sure if you use MapQuest to use this address: 28 Thomas Ave Baltimore, MD NOT 28B Thomas Ave Baltimore, MD (the B puts you at a different Thomas Street downtown). As you turn onto Thomas Ave, pass five house and take the next driveway (commercial) on the right and go to the back parking lot. The office is up the stairs in a trailer. ... and call first: 410-636-9000 Now to find a 38 mm (1.5 inch spout) so I can pour the stuff and start my big adventure! Thanks, Paul

Great! B100 in Baltimore (finally!!!). And it is way cheaper than petrodiesel, too, which is a nice bonus.[:D] I will go over there on Friday and get a few pails of it and report back on this forum. Until then, pass the word so the new guy gets plenty of business.

Ooops... I should clarify - it is $3.25 per gallon in a 5 gallon pail - including the pail. So a pail is $16.25.

Hmmm. That makes it 45 cents per gallon MORE expensive than the Taylorsville (Westminster) Shell station's B100. Not so attractive now. -Tom

Re: Where to get biodiesel in Maryland, Virginia, DC

I am willing to put out a distribution site in the DC area if I can get approximately 100 members to be a part of the DC Co-op. My target price for members is $2.50/gallon for ASDM certified B100 and it will be a year round station. I am currently in talks with a number of tank producers and am searching for a place to install the tank. Progress will be reported on this website: http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/DCBiodieselcoop/ If you are interested in helping me get started, please join the group.
