BioDieselNow - Renewable biodiesel fuel

Well, not yet, but maybe once things warm up I'll get it together. Just found out about this stuff this summer. Haven't found anyone here in the pittsburgh area. Export fuel co. is close enough to supply. There is a fellow that goes by farmer on the infopop biodiesel website, who brews in the south central PA area. Where are you located?

I've been doing it for a couple of years now. I normally just make it in the spring and summer months. I have a cone I want to weld on the bottom of a 55 gallon barrel for this year to make things easier.

Dan, In what part of this keystone state are you located? I'd be interested in seeing what you have going if possible. Of course, Phil prophesized, it will be about 4 1/2 more weeks until things start flowing. Do you store your biodiesel for winter use? Astonishedboy, Frank

I don't have a processor set up yet, I got the cone made up last March but never got it welded on a barrel yet. The way I've done it so far is to use a 15 gallon steel drum on one of those burners that come with a turkey fryer. I have an edger blade with the ends bent at an angle and welded on a 3/4" shaft to mix with. I set all this up under my drill press and use that to turn the mixer. Kind of primitive when you see what other people have done. I have available about 600 gallons of used oil a year if I want it. I have to get serious about it and build a processor to utilize what's available. By the way I live in Brockway about 90 miles north northeast of Pittsburgh.

Hi All, I'm just starting to learn about biodiesel. I'm about 60 miles north of Pittsburgh. I would really like to see a working biodiesel setup. Is there anyone in W PA or E OH? I have metal fabricating skills and would be willing to help build your set up if you are at that stage. Thanks, Chuck

just found this thread. i grew up in northwestern PA and have been living out in CO the past 5 years. i still go back to PA a few times a year and have a small biodiesel facility there (about 100 gallons a week). i've been involved with BD for about 3 years now. i'm going back to PA for a few weeks in may if you want to meet up. check out http://www.greaseldiesel.com

i'll post a message when i get into the area and maybe we can set up a place and time and we could meet others in the area. should be towards the end of may. always enjoy meeting more people interested in BD and their respective backgrounds. localized networking is great for BD.

If anyone in SW PA is looking for Methanol. I was at Export Fuels today (the local BD Distributor). Thinking about making my own BD, I asked if they sold Methanol...the good news is that they do! In 5gal containers.

I am currently making biodiesel in Berks County, Pa. I am looking for a source of Methanol in large quanties, 55 gallon drums would be great, any ideas? If anyone has any questions about the process, feel free to ask me!

Hi. I too plan on making my own biodiesel, and am interested in watching someone else's home brew operation. If you are thinking of getting together I'd be interested. I'd also welcome any input on whether it's better to make biodiesel or get a kit to use straight (filtered) waste oil. Also, how much is it costing you per gallon for the chemicals? Thanks, John

Eureka! I finally found a bio-diesel site with some local guys on it. I'm about an hour east of pittsburgh. Glad to hear about export fuels. i've been having trouble locating methanol. maybe if enough of us ask they'll start selling it in 55 gallon drums. couldn't hurt to try

Hi, I am in Washington county and am gearing up to do a 10 gallon processor. Have started running 1 liter test batches with a pretty decent success rate to date. Am to am wondering if there is anyone else in my general area that is making Biodiesel.

I'm also in Berks county around Oley Valley (Way out past Reading). I was getting my methanol from Maple Grove raceway, but I think I've found a cheaper source in York, PA. They want $140 a drum, Maple grove raceway last time wanted $175 a drum.

 I have a processor made out of 55 gallon drums so I'm good for 50 gallon batches, which is not a problem because my source of oil is 70+ gallons a week!

 

Hi, I'm from the Scranton area and have a few suppliers of WVO and looking to start processing soon. Would really like to see another processor in my area to visit and see hands on operation. Looking to make a waterheater processor with vacum reclamation for the methanol. Also looking for methanol suppliers locally. I'll bet Pocono raceway may have but thats about an hour drive for me.

I'm in NE PA (Pike County, border of NY/NJ) and just completed my first batch using the Dr. Pepper method. I wouldn't call myself a home brewer yet, but I may pull the trigger on a processor when the weather warms (now that I have 2 diesels in my driveway).
