I have a couple of questions about this place and Methanol in general:
1. What sort of container is appropriate for methanol? Are most plastics OK?
2. Is there any issue with transporting a large amount (say, 200 gallons) of methanol over state lines to PA? (I'm in the Reading, PA area)
3. Lastly, can I just go and pump it (@ the Hillside Oil Company) or are they going to ask me what it's for and give me that ~you're gonna' go make drugs~ look though I fully describe the process and uses of biodiesel - or worse yet, refuse to sell it to me 'cause they don't care to learn about biodiesel.
I just want to know what I could be getting into - it's a bit of a drive - :)
Thanks!
Erica

Re: Methanol Blues - Suppliers in PA??
i have been buying meth at hillside as well, i load it into steel bbls. but the high densite bbls will also work, i do not know of any transporting issues, I drive 110 gals to NJ a few times a year w/out problems, the folks at hillside know about bio-diesel and are very friendly (maybe they are ex dope smokers, LOL) price was $2.25/gal. last time i went, steve

Re: Methanol Blues - Suppliers in PA??
Hi,
I buy methanol in bulk for biodiesel friends and myself. I have negotiated the ptice down to $1.92/gallon in a 55 gallon drum + about $5.00/barrel for delivery, insurance and fuel charges. I also get KOH in Pottstown in a 199 pound drum for about $110.

Re: Methanol Blues - Suppliers in PA??
An ethanol plant in Minnesota will sell methanol Denatured ETHANOL that is 98% dry for a lot less than 5.29. isnt there any Ethanol plants that sell near you? it must be 98% dry I hear to react like Methanol.

Re: Methanol Blues - Suppliers in PA??
Jim I am not sure...I am just getting started and that is what I have found so far locally. My parents live about 50 minutes from Johnstown, PA and we might try that location mentioned earlier in this post. Thanks for the ethanol idea!
