Now that the date issue is fixed, my to-do list (not necessarily in order):

  • Replace the temporary header with a real one
  • Get the old biodiesel merchandise page rolling again
  • Get the links page rolling
  • Update the footer of the site to make it more functional
  • Sharpen up the style a bit
  • Get the blogging system rolling (open to suggestions and submissions)
  • Set up a biodiesel Wiki
  • Add functionality (better linking, more menus, showing post counts, etc) throughout the site
  • Search engine optimization
  • Modify the "Active Topics" page to organize them by forum (more complicated than it seems... trust me)

I am open to, and seeking out, suggestions! So please, let us know what we can do to improve your BDN experience.

Activate the "Files" in the header and add a downloadable/modifyable word doc files for the following:

  • A BDN "business card" to leave on windshields of diesel cars
  • A handout for trade shows/presentations (already exists)

Other ides?

Is it possible to be able to 'automatically' convert some of the old markup to display properly on the new forum? ie. [bracket] url tags, images, smileys, etc? I recall that it was possible in a php setup that that someone was using  few years back?

Hi Nate,

I uploaded an avatar and did a quick test on the thread below thinking I could delete it afterwards.
http://biodieselnow.com/forums/thread/80959.aspx
It turns out I can't.
Would you mind deleting it for me, and enabling the delete function?

Thanks

Would it be possible to add a light ledger shading to the active topic page so it would be easier to follow across the page to the multi page numbers?

Thanks

Jim

That's a good idea, but I don't know. I'll try it, but probably not for a while. My first three priorities are the shop page, the links page, and the tesimonials page.

ok, is the reply function bogging anybody elses computer down like it is mine?  no other service or program is doing it.  just the reply function here at BDN is making my compy run like i'm trying to do this with a comodore 64.  starting-up photoshop takes less time than it took to write out this message, and for it to catch-up to my typing (i am not fast at typing).  and it doesn't seem to make a difference whether i use the quick reply or the regular reply funtion.

All sweeping generalizations are wrong.

Does it happen whether you use the Quick Reply or the reply? How about if you start a topic?

What browser are you using? How about operating system?

No bogging on my end with a moderate XP notebook computer with Firefox 2. Tried both the 'reply' and 'quote' feature. I do sometimes notice the lag in typing while it formats the new text? How about your connection speed ... are you dial up?

the quick reply way lags like crazzzzzzy, when I am at work (dsl). At home on a little bit better of a computer it is faster but still a bit lagish (cable).

I would like to recomend a filter on the active topics, not only because I hate reading stuff from (foreign country) or why bush should eat bannanas instead of oranges in the morning. But because new users will come to the site and hit the link and see things that do not pertain to biodiesel at all, and you can not see the difference in the active topic list. Just a thought, if I was a new user I would be detered when looking for biodiesel and I find off-topic subjects right along with biodiesel subjects. Wink

Figuring out how to modify the active topics list is a fairly high priority, but it's also a complicated process that may simply be beyond my knowledge at this point.

What browser and OS do you use when it's really slow? I'm plugging along on a 4-year old Dell laptop and it shows up fine for me.

Yea I would imagine fixing the active topics page would be hard, well at least it is not as bad as the infopop site. THANK GOD! phewwww

I had received it and replied. Click the "Sign Out" option at the top of every page on the site. Wink

I have tried that and am still logged in.

When I hit the log out button it taakes about 2 minutes for the blue line at the bottom of the dcreen to move from left to right. The MS flag at the top right continues moving for much longer than that, but nothing else happens.

That sounds really odd. What browser are you using?

You could clear your cache and cookies and that might do it.
