    Methanol in VA

    Hey everyone,

I have been lurking and reading many sites regarding the production of Biodiesel. I own a 91 Bluebird with a Cummins and we (my wife and I ) own/operate a towing business. I think this is a great idea and can hardly wait to dive in. However, before I invest my money (I have little) I am trying to identify my sources for the nessessary items. I have found everything reasonable except Methanol. I have only found one supplier in Roanoke (Chemsolv) and they want $4.97 a gallon buying in 55 gallon drums! Seems kinda high for 55 gallons at a time. I don't really need that much at a time but would buy it like that if I could find a reasonable price. Who do you use for methanol in VA?

I found a place in Colonial Heights 804 526 087, they were 2-3 dollars a gal. I think they are Chemsolv also. Herb P.S where is your towing business?

    Re: Methanol in VA

We are located in the Moneta/Goodview area. We mostly service Roanoke, Bedford and Lynchburg areas. We are a relatively new company and like most in this business are concerned with the cost of fuel. It's our second largest expense. We only run one truck now and average $700 to $800 per month fuel cost at $2.50 gal. Assuming I could make about 125 or so gallons of biodiesel per month for our truck, we could potentially save over $5000 per year, per truck and would greatly reduce the pollution we cause in the process. (Win/Win) I talked to a fuel oil distributer in my area yesterday and he is going to try to find me a source for Methanol. He says they use a little in their Kerosine to prevent freezing. I will post the contact and price if I find a good deal in my area. I've browsed several sites and only find info on distributers in the Richmond area and notherern VA.

How recent was the quote you got for Methanol???  I was just quoted $3 a gallon on a 55 gallon drum from Dominion Chemicals in Petersburg....If we could somehow pool our efforts and find a reasonable priced source it would be good for everybody....BTW, I'm way down in Portsmouth, VA....Couple places I called down here want tons of paperwork to sell straightout to individuals....

    Hello,

I am a new member.  Looking around Fredericksburg could only find Methanol for $5.25/gal.  Have not gotten in touch with the local race tracks yet.  BTW, I bought one gallon of Methanol and it was blue......They told me that they put a small amount of oil into the fuel for the bennefit of the engines.  I am not sure if this will bother the Biodiesel process?  I am also looking for the best sources for KOH.

Hey Roughneck, give Dominion Chemical a try down in Petersburg, they quoted me $3 a gallon per 55 gallon drum a few weeks ago. Just drive to the dock and they will load it for you, no paperwork, just bring your cash or credit card... PM me a not @ vaman4215@yahoo.com and I'll see if I can find their number and address...

I am new to the portsmouth area and would like to get together with other people in the biodiesel community. I would like to get involved in a COOP or something similar in the area.

I have one other guy at work right now that is interested in the idea of working together on biodiesel. I will give you a call once I get up there and get established I am moving up in mid june. I also want to start playing with brownes gas or hho gas to see what can be done with that, I just don't know enough about that.
