In North Dallas area and looking for KOH and Methanol

    To the community:

I've been reading about making homebrew bioD for a while and I'm ready to begin.  I've ordered parts and begun designing my system components.  Thank you to the many contributors to this forum.  I've gained a great deal of information and confidence because of you (Spidey deserves extra thanks).

Here's what I need help with:

I've spent some time looking around for suppliers of KOH (50 to 100 lbs) and Methanol (55 gallon drum deposit and refills) and haven't had any success.  If there are any homebrewers in the Denton or N. Dallas area who have already found reasonable and reliable suppliers of these key ingredients, that info would be of great help to me.

Again, thanks so much and I look forward to reporting my experiences as I work with this.

    Best Regards,

    PwrStrk6spd

For KOH or NaOH the best priceing around is http://www.tayloredconcepts.com/recipes.htm , I drive from Huntsville area to buy from them. 50# and i save more than the cost to make the trip.

    Thank you for that, Trc.

Do have an account set up with them and do they sell it under a different name or do I just call them up and ask to buy a 50 lb sack of KOH?

First time i just called them up when got to Dallas and said i was comeing by to get some Sodium Hydroxide. The gal said ok, when I got there she confirmed i wanted Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) and not Potassium Hydroxide (KOH), cause there several biodiesel producers that buy from them want KOH. Then she set up a customer account so next time in she already have all the info to print out invoice. Trc

I picked up the KOH on Tuesday from Taylored Concepts.

I'm scheduled to receive the drum of Methanol on Saturday.

    Here we go!

    PwrStrk6spd,

I am in Little Elm too and would like to start making biodiesel.  Only problem is that I can't make it where my home is.  I have been wanting a diesel truck but don't want to foot the bill for the fuel.  Any chance we may be able to team up?

     Regards,

What did you have to pay for the 55 gal drum of Methanol?
