    Feece Oil in Batavia, IL

This company sells 100% biodiesel? I have read this in another post but I could not find a pump selling biodiesel. One of their pumps said 1% biodiesel added. Do you have to buy this from them during normal hours or can you buy while at a pump late at night? My girlfriend lives minutes from there and I will be checking it out on the way home after I pick her up.

I will post a current price, when and if I find it.

    Thanks,

    Erik

    Hi Erik,

Their B-100 tank is in the bulk fill area at the rear of the concrete pad area of the business. Since you are not familiar with their operation, stop in the office and tell them you'd like to fill up with B-100 biodiesel. They have a small passenger vehicle nozzle that they run from the manual reset meter in that area that connects to a larger commercial fill hose that they use to fill their delivery trucks, etc. Once you know how it works it is simple to use but they will generally send someone out if you need help. Once in a great while there is no one available to help and so it is good to get comfortable with it yourself. People using B-100 are the exception not the norm. Feece makes it available but you have to take a bit more effort.  Good luck!!

Hey, thanks for that reply. I did not have a chance yet to run over there and see how much the price of biodiesel is. Nevertheless, I will hopefully be able to get over there sometime this week. Do they sell any lower blends since it is winter and b100 would not be the best fuel to use right now. Also, do you know feedstock they are supplied with? I mean is it soybased, sunflower, waste oil, etc. etc.? Just curious because I have a chart I made myself of all the different gelling points of biodiesel made with different feedstocks. Soy oil I have found is good until about 25F to 30F degrees before it gels up. Obviously that information varies based on how its made and who tested the gel point. Thanks again and I hope to hear from you or others in the area.

I am still looking for someone to show me their homebrew kit as I have not seen a 5 gallon + batch made.

I agree, B-100 is going to be a bit thick by the end of this week. We are supposed to have Zero degrees for a couple of days by weeks end. Most of the Biodiesel retailers in this area sell B-11 with winter additives just like regular D-2 Winterblend diesel. If you want to try Feece this week just figure out what percentage you want, guestimate the volume in your tank when you fill, add the B-100 and then "splash blend" from the pumps up front to the roughly correct percentage. If you have lurked/perused this board for a while you'll have noted that when starting out on Biodiesel, especially in higher percentages, you may dislodge the gunk that dinodiesel leaves in our fuel systems. So, put a preventative maintenence fuel filter change in the schedule soon. It's always good to carry an extra filter with you in a compression ignition engine, just in case, so you are not stranded for long.

Put another log on the fire .......
