    anyone interested in buying methanol?

I live in sw florida (naples) and I am having not much luck in buying methanol locally. would anyone be interested in making a bulk purchase so we could get a better price? I could cough up enough to buy a couple of drums of methanol, but I think a minimum of 5 drums would have to be ordered. I am not even sure what the going price is per drum in bulk orders, a local filling station sells it 5 gallons at a time for 8.50 a gallon, I would think bulk would be much less.

Yes, I live up the road in Englewood area and would be interested in buying in bulk if the price is right. I am just getting started making the biodiesel and actually don't have a WVO supplier yet. I am hoping to get the local Chinese rest oil. Do you have trouble getting oil in your area? Let me know about the methanol. Thanks,                                       Milt

     Howdy t4294mm,

I am just getting started too, I bought my processor last december and I have made three batches of biodiesel so far. I bought my first 55 gallon drum of methanol from a guy up north of here, I gave 5.25 a gallon for it. I have used about half of it and and before very long I will have to get some more. I understand that petroleum distributors won't mess with you unless you have a minimum order of 5 drums, at least that is the story I am getting here in naples. Also, I have trouble getting anyone to discuss the wvo with me, the renderers here seem to have the market sewed up. I have one place so far that agrees to let me get the oil, their tank is in a secluded alley and there are several other businesses that have tanks there also. put two and two together. I have a 55 gallon drum that I load up in the back of my pickup truck and a fuel transfer pump I have rigged up with a long suction hose and a pvc wand that I drop into the wvo tank. Takes me about 15 to 20 minutes to get a load of wvo. The first batch titrated out at 8, pretty high, but it turned out ok, I burned it immediately in my 2000 F250 7.3L diesel.

So, if you have any ideas on where to get methanol at a good price, or would be willing to front the money to order methanol with me...let me know. Stay in touch, with todays diesel prices, we need all the help we can get.

I really like what you guys are doing. Something like this should be happening locally everywhere.

    Mr twcaldwell,

The first restaurant in Placida that I approached about the oil agreed to give me theirs. I don't think wvo is going to be hard to get around here (Englewood area). I have been picking up their oil for a couple of weeks now and I have to start up my processor. Concerning the methanol, there is a place in Sarasota that sells it for $322/55 barrel drum and I guess I will pay that for the first barrel. There must be cheaper sources and I will drive out of state if necessary to get it. I am retired and can go anytime especially if I am burning bio in my truck. If you know a source willing to sell 5 drums at a time I am a player. I will ask the guy in Sarasota this weekend (2/9/08) if bulk would be cheaper. Please keep in touch. t4294mm, Milt

Re: anyone interested in buying methanol?

    Hello  t494mm.

I will try to give the oil company a call tomorrow and get another quote, the last time I talked to them was about four months ago and I was not ready to buy five drums of methanol and I bought one drum from a distributor west of center hill florida...I gave 5.25 a gallon for one drum. I am down to about ten gallons of methanol and I will have to get more very soon. Also, I am having trouble finding anyone here in naples to cooperate with me on used cooking oil, I have even offered to pay for the oil, no one I have visited with yet will agree with me on the UVO. I will stay in touch with you. I have had very good success in making biodiesel with my processor, I have made several batches over the past few months and I am very pleased with the results and my truck runs and starts very good on it, I have been running b100. however, what little UVO I have been able to come with has ran out...I have about 40 gallons of some stuff that titrates out at around 10 and I am reluctant to process it for fear of losing a batch and about 45 dollars worth of methanol. cell 239-860-0194, email tomcaldwell@embarqmail.com, I will stay in touch, I watch this forum regularly and you are welcome to call or email me.

I am in Brevard county (central east coast).  I would be interested in a source of methanol in this area.  Not ready for a drum but could use 10 gallons or so.

well, called evans oil company today and I was informed that they no longer sell methanol by the drum.....so I am back to square one. I plan to make some more phone calls monday to see if any distributors will sell to me directly. I will post as I get information.

Re: anyone interested in buying methanol?

I found a source that will deliver 500 gallons at a time and still is 5 bucks or so per gallon. I am considering buying the 500 gallons and then try to sell off some of it to recoup some of my money. I obviously don't need that much but I think I can sell a lot of it. Are you interested in some? Let me know. Milt

Re: anyone interested in buying methanol?

Hi,  there are a number of sources in Geogia that are relatively inexpensive ($3.15/gal) sold in 55 gal drums.  I live in Port Charlotte and would consider one drum.  If you know of any sources locally at reasonable price please call.  941-764-7425

Do you know where in Georgia  thinking about it it would cost about 200.00 to go to south georgia and back   ( I live in w.p.b. but go to port charlotte a lot ) so you would have to bring back more than 110 gallons to break even.

Re: anyone interested in buying methanol?

I have found a possible source for methanol at a "decent" price. I am going to pick up the first drum this weekend while I am visiting relatives in NC. The price will be $4.75/gal minmum 55 gallons. I intend to go back in two weeks if anyone else is interested. The price will be $275/barrel to help cover some of my expense delivered to Englewood area. There are no other cheaper sources unless you buy 6000 gallons at a time. That $3.15/gal in Georgia is a fairy tale. The distributor in Florida and Georgia wants 5.65/gal minmum 500 gallon purchase. At the price of diesel these days, this methanol is a bargain. Anyone interested, let me know by March 31st.   Milt

Re: anyone interested in buying methanol?

St Cloud here.  Thinking about buying a fulemeister.  Does anyone have any positive or negative feedback on this type of machine??

I would also like to buy methanol.  I think so far there are alot of peopl ein the central florida area.  Weve got to work together to get some.

Ill let this forum know when I too am ready for methanol.

and what about lye?  Ive heard lowes and HD have cut back their sales?  Are there any other sources in our area?

How about the cooking oil?  DOes everyone still have to pay to get rid of it?   Are rest. owners getting hip to this and selling it?  I know in New England everyones frantic to get it for waste oil heating purposes.  Good thing thats not true down here.

Any help is appreciated 407 709 0913 chris

Don't waste your money buying a fuelmeister or any other machine. That whole thing is a scam to get your money. You can build an adequate machine for 200 bucks or so. There are some great sources for methanol if you have cooking oil sources already.

    Hey to all

I live up in lake county area. The last time I purchase a drum of methanol it was 3.62 per gal, but the price goes up and down every month. So am going to pruchase a drum in the next week or so. If any of ya'll want any contact me back here or at hiregun@yahoo.com. I will check the price first too..
