This thread is about the Canoe Paddle Processor.  What else do you want to talk about?  Why do you feel that staying on topic is shutting down the thread?  You will make everyone happy if you take your insults and go back to the Infopop forum

I have no experience with paddle mixing and I find it quite interesting.  As I have never run into anything about paddle mixing biodiesel in a home reactor I would appreciate it if you could point me to some information about home reactors that use paddle mixing.

Of course this forum is about biodiesel production.  If you look at the Home Page The second forum down is titled Biodiesel Production] "This forum for discussion related to biodiesel production from large scale processors to home brew."  And you can find discussions about Appleseed Reactors and BioPro spread throughout this website.

I agree about the advertising!  RickdaTech should remove the links in his signature to his store front immediatly.

And by all means, if you feel that the safe use of glycerine and soap from making biodiesel =IS= interesting start a thread about that immediatly.

Hi all,

We have been using the CPP to lower the FFA level in the oil.

We get the oil warm, mix the glycerin from the last batch into the oil for the next batch, let it sit for a day then drain it.  It appears that the methanol leaves the glycerin and goes into the oil.

questions:   How is this possible unless we are making biodiesel ?  Is there an easy way to test how much methanol is left in the glycerin after doing this or do I have to build a still to find out?

Has testing been done on this ?   I can't find any.

This has become a step for me in using the CPP.  Using the CPP to remove the methanol from the glycerin this way and lowering the FFA of the oil is on topic.

All uses of the CPP are on topic here including using it to recover and make soap !  :)

How are you doing ?  Welcome to the Canoe Paddle Processor thread ! ! !  :)

We are deep into studying using the glycerin byproduct, methanol and all, to lower the FFA content and clean up the WVO before processing.

This has allowed us to make biodiesel using smaller amounts of lye and methanol..

We are building a still to do tests on the glycerin to see how much methanol leaves the glycerin and goes into the WVO.

We are making biodiesel with oil that ends up being about 2 KOH instead of 5 KOH. The oil also becomes lighter and clearer.

I am a newbee to CPP and I am steep on the learning curve  That's where I like to be ! ! !  :)   As far as I know Greengirl Labs is the only place doing CPP testing and posting about it !   I am having lots of fun making and learning about biodiesel ! ! !  :)

I am doing alright. It is a very long recovery process as it will take a long for my brain to acclimate and for my stength to return.

We have never done any standardized testing, but we have used the glycerine by product to lower FFA's in high titrating oil. We also found that it did a really good job at cleaning up oil before processing. We were only doing this to help a customer use some really bad oil that he had accumulated before he had a processor. He found better oil supplies and we didn't have the time to follow through with it any more.

What was the common base and catalyst amounts used back in 2002? Had we as a community moved from 3.5 to 5 as a NaOH base amount? Does better converted fuel take longer to process with the CPP?

The links being broken on the Shout Out to Dhill thread leaves alot of questions ?  The thread as it reads still is loaded with info.

Before Tilly turned us on to the 3/27 test I did his other tests.

Tilly's tests are what pointed me in the direction of using a larger base amount.

I had bought girl marks book and was using the base amount she suggested and had lots of washing problems. Tilly's tests showed me how to make high conversion easy to wash biodiesel . :)

Tilly had developed the technology to determine how much base is needed to make high conversion biodiesel before he posted the  3/27  test.

I could not understand how people could tell others to use low base amounts.

I thought they must not have done Tilly's tests !

After the 3/27 test came out then it was clear that a higher base amount was needed than 3 or 4.

neutral talks of using a GC.  I  would think he knew for sure how much base to use to get a good conversion.

Unless Tilly decides to fix the broken links and show us then we will never know  how much base he was using ?

neutral suggests that the mixing needs to be real hard for the first few mins then the biodiesel just needs to be stirred slowly or just a stir every few mins. after the first hard mix. He did GC tests.

I think it would be hard to prove him wrong !
