Re: Hi, the Canoe Paddle Processor is here ! :)

Sorry for going on like that Dandy Don.   That base amount thing really gets me going !  :)

My son bought a diesel truck to run biodiesel !  :)  We may need that BioPro sooner than I thought !  :)

How do you like the 150 ?

    Thanks, Steve

P.S.  Best place to buy a BioPro  http://biofuelclinic.com/products.php

             Ask for Dandy Don !

Re: Hi, the Canoe Paddle Processor is here ! :)

The 150's are nice machines. They are not as fully automated as the 190 or 380.

They do a 40 gallon batch and the footprint is similar to the 190. They only have one methanol tank so you would start the machine and wait for the methanol to pump in for the acid reaction. You would then add the catalyst and methanol for the base reaction. You could then walk away from it and it would run the acid and then the base. You would drain the glycerine and then start the wash. This machine doesn't drain the wash water, so you would have to come back and drain the water and then start the wash again. And then repeat this for the third wash. You would then drain the wash water and then start the dry cycle.

With my usually busy lifestyle and for the last couple of months not being able to do much. I appreciate and really like the automation of the 190 which is what we make our fuel with. If we switch to another machine for our personal use it will be going up to a 380.

The 150 is a perfect machine for someone that doesn't mind a few more manual steps. It does make great fuel and saves a lot of time over other systems out there.

We still don't have the 150 on our site, but we should in the near future.

    Thanks,

    DD

    Hi Dandy Don,

When I told Greengirl you posted in the CPP thread she got a big smile and said it was a blessing !  :)

    I agree !  :)

Thanks for the info !  I am thinking 190.

    Thanks, Steve

We made a 100 liter batch last night. Mixed at 150 F. 5.5 gallons methanol, 1200 grams KOH. Oil titrated 3 KOH.  Instead of watching a clock I put on a cd.  Santana and Buddy Miles Live.

I started the cd right after putting in the methanol and lye.  I mixed real hard until they started playing Evil Ways then took a break.

Then after Evil Ways I would mix for about a min when each song would start plus a coupe extra times in the long song at the end.  :)   At the end of the cd I mixed then let it sit.

Passed 3/27.    Other cd's might work !  :)  The first song should be at least 3 mins and a real rocker !  :)

    a real rocker !  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G19nXIYpk3Y&feature=related

Re: Hi, the Canoe Paddle Processor is here ! :)

We used 50 liters of oil that was cleaned using glycerin byproduct.  It titrated at 2 KOH.

The other 50 liters was straight out of the drum from the deep fryer.  It had settled about a month and looked clear. It titrated at 4 KOH.

Mixed it titrated at 3 KOH.

The first mix was hard for about 6 mins at 150F.  Total mixing about 12 mins. over 45 mins time.

I used 9 for a base using 85% KOH.  That is 9 grams base per liter KOH out of the bag plus 3 grams for titration.

5.5 gallons methanol for 100 liters of oil because I wanted to make high conversion biodiesel single stage for sure !

We passed 3/27 at 68F.  It was clear. No cloudiness at all !  :)

Greengril and I did the 3/27 test.  No dropout.

On the left is the mixer I use.  The CV joint boot is from a 94 Saturn inside boot on the right side drive shaft.

The stick is a 48" post hole digger replacement handle from Lowe's.

The plastic piece is a 2" male pvc adapter from Lowe's.

On the right is the vent.  It is a piece of 3/4" pvc pipe glued to a 3/4" male adapter from Lowe's.

Build a Canoe Paddle Processor no welding

We are using a 55 gallon drum with a lid with 2" and 3/4"  bungs in the bottom of the drum.

The lid has  2"  and  3/4"  bungs also.

I bought this drum at the local drum place for $22.  I had to ask for one with bungs in the bottom.

When they make the open top drums from a drum with no lid they cut the top off with a machine.

It is just as easy for them to cut the top or bottom off !  :)

    Top of drum.

    Hi Stephend,

Read the whole post, interesting. http://panaceauniversity.org/Chapter14.pdf  Scroll down to page 23 and think of a LAAARGE Funnel. Maybe it could help to reduce heating time while keeping it simple and "solar". Hope it helps.

Re: glycerin to lower FFA pretreat, methanol amount testing

    stephend:

    Hi all,

We have been using the CPP to lower the FFA level in the oil.

We get the oil warm, mix the glycerin from the last batch into the oil for the next batch, let it sit for a day then drain it.  It appears that the methanol leaves the glycerin and goes into the oil.

questions:   How is this possible unless we are making biodiesel ?  Is there an easy way to test how much methanol is left in the glycerin after doing this or do I have to build a still to find out?

Has testing been done on this ?   I can't find any.

This has become a step for me in using the CPP.  Using the CPP to remove the methanol from the glycerin this way and lowering the FFA of the oil is on topic.

All uses of the CPP are on topic here including using it to recover and make soap !  :)

    Thanks, Steve

What is FFA?  do you wash before use?  and don't all bio kits use some sort of agitation?  but I have seen where agitation can cause emulsions

    Thanks!

Re: Hi, the Canoe Paddle Processor is here ! :)

Hi,  FFA is free fatty acid.   That is what makes soap in a single stage base process.   I don't water wash the biodiesel.   I recover the soap and use it.   Water washing throws away really good soap.

Keep in mind when making biodiesel you are making biodiesel and soap.   Most setups don't allow you to recover and use all the soap.

I only use KOH to make biodiesel.   That way the soap is easy to recover.

I suggest you get legal's soap book and learn about the other half of making biodiesel. Wink      http://www.blackcrownsoap.com/
