Re: Wanting to Start a South Jersey Biodiesel Group

Anyone want to split a 55 gallon drum of methanol with me?  I'm getting ready to set up my Appleseed processor. I have a line of some used veggie oil, got NaOH already.  I made my first 1L test batch and it came out great.  I can get methanol for $3.21/gallon (including delivery), but the minimum is 55 gallons and I really don't want to store more than about 25 gallons yet.  So if anyone want to go halves I'll be happy to share.  Looking at possibly ordering in about 2 weeks.

    Thanks - Glen

Sure, not too difficult to make, I filter the oil a few times before I add kerosene, gasoline, cetane boost, and some other ingredient. Again, the issue is obtaining the oil in the first place. It is a big mess, and takes alot of time running around. If you want, I can let you know when I gather up about 40 gallons to make.  Rick

Rickfopec, what you are doing is blending not making biodiesel

please tell me you are not useing DSE? DSE=Snake oil

the vo in that mix will settle out of the blend causing you to start your engine on straight cold vo not good unless you have a 2 tank system and can start out on #2 till the second tank remixes its self. I know some one( i go to there house on a regular bassis not just read about)  who wasted an engine learning that the hard way

crazyearl,   Holy crap, I bought into this nonsense? I thought I was making biodiesel. I hav about 25 gallons in a barrel right now, I have not put it in my f350 yet. I do not have two tanks. Now I am worried. Not sure what to do next. Not only that, my wife is going to kick my butt if I tell her that DSE is no good. Oh boy!   Thanks!

They sell an additive that promesses cheap fuel they make it sound easy to do and hook a lot of people that way. But dont just take my word look at the Beter Busines B site or any diodiesel form and search DSE. If you want to see how biodiesel is made feel free to stop by when i get done the outage and return to a normal work schedual.

    Hello Zap.

I'm on the exact same track as you.  Have a flip looking for a warm body.  Have purchased a diesel pickup.  I am researching bio-diesel.  Would love to find an active forum.  Let me know how you are progressing.

Re: Wanting to Start a South Jersey Biodiesel Group

Hi, I’m a chemist interested in biodiesel production on a medium scale operation, 200 to 500 gals per batch size, just started doing some in-depth research on the topic, and just curious on who would be maybe interested in helping out. I have a weekend residence in little egg harbor. I might have a supply of used cooking oil to fulfill these needs (maybe). I just do not have the space for tanks. I am just trying to estimate costs, and also the legality of use and or sale of the product.  Just looking for some feedback on who will be interested in a co-op.  Selling to commercial fishermen would be great.

Re: Wanting to Start a South Jersey Biodiesel Group

I am definitely interested.  Especially if it can be applied in any scale to fishing vessels, which has been one of my primary motivations to make biodiesel.  I'm just starting to put together my appleseed processor.  I have good contacts for chemicals, methanol, some oil and have good mechanical skills.  Call me, I'd be happy to talk!

Hey crazzyearl  Where are you getting your lye from, I'm having trouble finding lye to do test batches. I've found oil.  Anyone who knows where I can get lye in south jersey or even philly, it would really help me alot.

    Thanks for your help

Hello all, I live in Mays Landing and I am about to get started putting together a Biodiesel Station now. Also I have a buddy from Somerdale that wants to get started as well. We are beginning to search out sources for oil.

    Paul,

Where are you getting lye. The box stores don't carry it anymore and if you ask for it, they just stand there with a look on there face like you are talking quantum physics.
