Newbie question: Can I use kerosene in my diesel vehicle?

New to boards, so please be patient.  Going on the theory that the only stupid question is the unasked one Big Smile,  my husband and I are wondering if we can run the kerosene sold at stations in our older diesel Mercedes?  Trying to line up UVO, but having little success.  Any tips would be greatly appreciated.  We are in the upstate of SC.

you may only run a small percentage mixed with regular diesel I think it is 5% Kerosene. Kerosene has no lubricant and can burn up your motor if you use to high of a percentage

Many people use kerosene as an anti-gel agent during cold winter months. Using biodiesel, which has very good lubricity, you could use a little more.  But as stated above, it will strip the cylinder wall, pistons/rings and valve train of necessary lubricants if used in too high a concentration without other modifications. That would be disastrous for your engine.

The short answer is yes. The reality is more fully discussed through the following link.

Many considerations to be aware of but it is common in "non-industrialized" countries and the pacific rim.

B5 in kerosene provides sufficient lubrication for diesel operation.

Avoid any biodiesel info from journytoforever!! It is an excellent website with bad information!
