New to Biodiesel, looking for help setting up 300D for B100

Hello, I signed up here a year ago and I'm finally purchasing a '78 Benz 300D. It has low miles, good condition. I'm looking for anybody who wants to help me with adding an in-line fuel filter, and other pointers for acclimating the fuel system to pure Biodiesel. For example, I'm not entirely clear on whether the fuel lines will need to be switched out for Viton.

Send me a PM if you can, and THANKS!!!!!!

Hey, I have that exact car and it is a great model for biodiesel use! From what I've heard and experienced, modifications are few -- I did put in Viton hoses and that's it. I still use the normal fuel filter. Some people claim you can even use straight vegetable oil directly in the fuel tank as long as it's warm enough, but I have yet to have the guts to try. I may eventually convert to a double tank system, though. So far I've run her on blends and on B100 when weather permits and used her as a demonstration vehicle to promote biodiesel. She had the honor of being parked on the sidewalk in front of the Oregon State Capitol when we had a biofuels lobby day a few years back, and was parked on the National Mall in D.C. to promote my university's biodiesel group at an event hosted by the EPA in 2005. We drove here there from Corvallis, OR, on primarily B100 (except for when a supplier we had expected to have B100 was out and we had to use B20 for a leg of the journey). It was a great experience! Congrats on getting one of the best cars ever made -- I'm sure you'll love it! -Brenna

Sounds great! Serendipitus to that, I will be driving it to Portland in July, when I move. Between next week and that day, I hope to have the system cleaned out, new hoses, etc.

Except for Viton fuel lines, my '83 240D burns B100 with a 100% stock fuel system.  Four years now.
