Watch closely, see the magic bunny?

Next time you go to the gas station to fill up, look at the price of the 3 flavors of gas FIRST,

then swipe your card in the reader, see if it changes. my bet is, 8 to 50 cents higher if you pay with debit or credit card, thats not counting the 2% fee from the card issuer as well.

everyone's looking to maximize their profits, but 50 cents per gallon? watch it on yahoo news. its crazy.

Wicked.  Almost makes me want to go to a filling station just to see that.

yup, its bait and switch, they want to either make more money per gallon if you use your card, or go ahead and pay in cash, you have to do that inside, where you'll probably get a coffee, some chips, oh a pack of smokes. and 3 other items they have a 67% mark up on anyhow.

    money its a hit,

dont give me that do goody good bullshit

    money, so they say

is the root of all evil today

but if you ask for a rise its no surprize they're giving none away

There's a nasty counter to this.  Pay cash and =do not buy anything else= at that station.

That will slow down the number of transactions they can do per unit time to the point that they lose money.

I don't buy fuel at places that charge differently for credit unless the price is the lowest I can find. Also I don't buy anything but fuel from the station. Here in New Jersey they must post the prices so it is easy to know who charges more for credit.

I've never noticed this kind of premium at any station I've purchase fuel at in Ohio -- 50 cents per gallon. I stop at a variety of stations but even the one's along the interstate that say Cash/Credit pricing on their signs have yet to ding me for a premium of anything close to 50 cents/gallon. And 2% fee to the card holder ... are we talking MC/Visa/Discover/Amex credit cards???

Frankly I do understand the fuel stations needing to charge one or two percent more to take credit cards as it costs them a couple percent to take them. But on a $4-5/gallon that totals 8 - 10 cents max ... not 50. BUT even at truck stop oriented fuel stations I've not encountered the price shift in the auto only lanes ... even though the signs indicate a price difference for Cash vs. Credit. Each station has always given me the 'cash' price even though I pay with a credit card.

A note for those who manage their personal finances well ... why not use somebody else's money for 30 days? Most credit worthy individuals are eligible for credit cards with no annual fee and a cash back (or some other perk) for every dollar they spend. 1-2% cash back is common, some offer 5% on certain purchases (ie. Discover card 5% on fuel purchases through September). Some fuel station oriented cards are offering a 10% rebate for buying fuel with their bank cards. (with limitations) So ... if you are paying your bills every month and can use the banks money for 30 day AND get a percent of your purchase back, why not???

I doubt very much  that any store is charging $.50 a gallon to use a credit or debit card.  I do know that the store has to pay a fee depending on the card up to 6% of the price you put on the card for a fee to take those cards.  Now some one has to pay those fees.  Let's say the store is making 6 cents a gallon profit and the price is $4  now if the fee is 2% that's 8 cents a gallon fee.   Should the store pay you 2 cents a gallon to sell you gas. Hell no!   They have to cover their cost.   Just pay cash and save your self a bunch of money.

Re: Watch closely, see the magic bunny?

just showing what i saw on the news. i filled up today and can verify that the ONE station i went to in corpus had no difference in price between cash and credit. I used my debit card to fill up today at an Exxon.

in the video, provided in the link, the store owner was asked how much he was charging per gallon, he replied fifty cents more for debit card over the price of cash. watch it yourself. the entire point was, its a bait and switch to get you to come into the store to buy other over priced items, if you dont, then they'll just gouge you at the pump instead, because the only way to get gas without going into the store to prepay, is to use a debit/credit card.

its a simple concept, im sure you grasp it now.

    Confused
