    5.5 HP 2" semi-trash honda type pump

Hello, I am farily new to making biodiesel and I have found that I need a better form of collecting WVO from restaurants. I was using a barrel pump but it is slower than balls so i need to step it up. It is cold where I am constantly so the WVO is semi viscous. I was wondering if a 2" 5.5 Hp trash pump will move that stuff. Any answers would be great, Or Even sugestions!!!! I Peed In the Pool!! :(

How cold? I used a 3.5 hp teel trash pump (also 2 inch) and it sucked at least 1/2 gallon a second at less than half throttle. I was amazed. It was only 50 degrees out though.

P I havent really TRIED any OTHER pump. I also have a honda 5.5hp 2". It worked well all Winter here (sometimes 10 to 20 Degrees F). I tried to collect all oil when its above freezinig. Since its hard for me to make a lot of bio in the Winter here (for lack of heated building) I try to get most of my oil from 'seasonal' places rather than very large (Pizza Hut) places. My pump works great, sometimes when its REAL cold it sucks air or makes air pockets in the oil, but if you move it around and stir it up it will suck fairly quick. I made a stiff attatchment for the end of my hose with PVC and cut the end at an angle so I can put it right on the bottom of my drums and also acts as a nice stirring device too. MOST oil will pump real nice and fast even at half throttle. The Winter Oil I need 3/4 throttle, and occasionally full throttle for a bit of time.      Does it make a difference between a centrifugal or diaphram pump.  What's the ideal setup for cold weather?
