Re: Columbus Co-op

I live in Clintonville/Columbus and am new to this forum. Did the January local meeting happen? I would like to learn/contribute to local efforts to establish a co-op. I would appreciate hearing more. Thanks!

I am a freelance writer for The Other Paper in Columbus. I am writing an article on Columbus biodiesel initiatives. I would like to feature a Columbus biodiesel enthusiast for the story. If any of you, based in Columbus, would be interested in talking with me that would be great. It would be a good way to get the word out on your co-op. Let me know. You can email me at smith.3220@osu.edu, or give me a call at 299-1307. Hope to hear from some of you soon.

Dayrl ... before you get rolling with a set-up like the one on Trucks! (see comments) you should be sure you understand the pitfalls behind this option. A few minutes searching here might provide you will some insight on both the Fuelmeister and the Appleseed Processors. No bad mouthing ... just be sure you know what you're spending your money on.

I have been wanting to use biodiesel since I bought my diesel Beetle 3 years ago. If you are asking for an expression of serious interest, count me in. I live in Westerville and work in the OSU area.

Hey all, I'm also in Columbus (Bexley) and am in the process of gathering parts, supplies, suppliers etc. for an appleseed reactor I will build over the coming weeks. I am interested in the idea of a co-op but prefer to get my hands dirty first. Anyone up for a get together to chat? Mark ('04 Golf TDI) mlb3820@yahoo.com Mark B

    Re: Columbus Co-op

I'm new to diesel, but am jumping in with both feet... I've been researching for 3 months, and _FINALLY_ found a used Jetta TDI that I pick up Saturday. Anyway, I have been starting a grass-roots initiative to start a co-op, and just found this site today, rather pleasantly. I also just scored a 50-60 gallon per week WVO location. :-) Here's what I'd like to accomplish with a Co-op: > Build a Big Co-op owned MOBILE Appleseed processor ** > Clearinghouse for links, resources, supplies, and knowledge > BOF (Bird of Feather) sessions (a.k.a. B.S. Sessions) > Workshops and seminars (2x per year?) > PR contact point for press, schools, other community organizations > Liaison with government, commercial biodiesel, COTA/Metro > Liaison (membership?) with other alternative energy groups. (in particular, ethanol distillers, whose product we could use!) > Website and governance (leadership) enabling the above to run I've got a professional chemist, master mechanic, a homebrew ethanol moonshiner, and a commercial Biodiesel processor in my Rolodex, and think at least two of them would join the Co-op. Rumor has it that there is a Co-op meeting happening real soon - May 5? /* commentary: ** Why a communal MOBILE Appleseed processor? While many of us have or will setup our own processor, I'm sure there's a market for lurkers that want to join a Co-op, and want access to Biodiesel, but aren't interested in making their own processor. They want to have the pride of making their own B100, but are leery about building their own processor. A mobile unit allows us to: > Rent it to wannabee homebrewers, sell them the supplies & help them make 250 gallons in their driveway in a weekend. > Easily take it to schools, parades, events > Avoid the 400 gallon tax limit by moving the processor to differing locations > Have a platform for R&D and tinkering that is funded collaboratively */ Anyone wanna meet to establish a Co-op? If there's not one already, I'll just call a meeting, and see who shows up. Dan Houser Biodiesel enthusiast & wannabee dan.houser@gmail.com -ddh ___ __/@__\_ )_^___^__| O O `O0B100)oo..

    Re: Columbus Co-op

I believe that i'm one of the few that doesn't have a processor but I'm absolutely willing to rent a processor. I can provide the WVO, the truck to pull it to mine or someone else's place. I just feel I'm not ready to experiment with fabricating a processor. I'd rather pay someone else to rent theirs, mostly because I want someone else that has done it already to teach me what I'm doing right and wrong. If this isn't gonna happen soon I'm happy buying product from someone that has extra or is willing to make more than they need. YOu could practically make a 2nd income from how much I could use. I drive (sometimes) 2500 miles/wk just stopping in cols,oh to visit my family and post a few words on here. By the way where and when is the CO-OP meeting? anybody? post to BUILDR42@aol.com thanx infformd buildr42@aol.com

We're based in Cleveland, but I have an office in Akron. We can most certainly find you all sites for Biodiesel production facilities. Thanks for your time and feel free to drop me a line at michael.harris@colliersom.com for assitance with site selection. Come to the experts for site selection, we can speed up the process and pick the best site for your needs. Need Rail Access? Need Lake Erie Access?? Need Interstate Access??? I look forward to helping you. Mike :-) Michael A. Harris Land Development Services Colliers Ostendorf-Morris michael.harris@colliersom.com

    Re: Columbus Co-op

I am new to the forum and have been exploring biodiesel marketing/production. I'm located in Delaware, Ohio and am wondering whether there is a report or minutes from the Columbus co-op meeting earlier this month. I have a ready source for KOH / NaOH / Methanol etc. and also a couple sources of WVO.

    Re: Columbus Co-op

I  would like to get in on it .Im basicly looking for a stable source of WVO.Im willing to pay a fair price for it so it will be worthwhile. I process some biodiesel.I  know what works and what is safe.Just for those who dont know methanol can be very dangerous and if you keep to much it can be illegal. I use 300 gallons of WVO a month. If you still are working on this let me know. stevet3coffey@yahoo.com.
