    Extra oil For Sale

I get about 80 gallons of Soybean oil a month but only use about 50 per month. My 275 gallon toat is full plus two 55 gallon drums. Is $30 per 55 gallons too much to ask for it? I live in souh Bexar County. Jack.. His: Black 2003 GMC 2500HD 4x4 Crew Cab DM w/6" Lift. Hers: Pewter 2003 GMC 2500HD 4x4 Crew Cab DM

I guess the answer to your question depends on if your oil is VIRGIN or used waste oil. If your oil is used waste oil, $30 is too much. We pay between $.05 to $.10 per gallon for waste oil, and we just bought some VIRGIN Cotton Seed for $1.56/gallon. While I will admit Cotton Seed is not the same as Soybean, the end result is the same, so oil is oil at some point. So if its used is worth about $5 bucks, if its Virgin, $30 is a deal assuming your refering to 55 gallons. Motown, Bexar County is San Antonio, TX basically. Good Luck!

I have to drive 60 miles round trip to get 40 gallons, 120 miles for 80 gallons. I was just asking for what it cost me in fuel. I live south of San Antonio just inside 1604. Jack.. His: Black 2003 GMC 2500HD 4x4 Crew Cab DM w/6" Lift. Hers: Pewter 2003 GMC 2500HD 4x4 Crew Cab DM

    Re: Extra oil For Sale

The price this morning for yellow grease on the market is 14.5 cents per pound for the gulf coast . The price for northern Texas is up to 15.5 cents per pound . This is What the product is actually worth on the commodities market . Just because you can go out and steal the oil from someone for free does not mean that it is worth nothing . Most of the people who are trying to collect large amounts of oil for large scale production of illegal fuel seem to think that just because the cook says they can have the oil for 10 to 15 cents per gallon it is not theft . You are wrong and there are lots of people who will prosecute for the theft of this product . There are even a few companies around here locally who have detectives on thier payroll . If you are collecting the oil legally and makking it into fuel that is illegally sold then you are still in trouble on the grease end of it to . You can only haul grease for personal use , not ANY commercial venture . If you want to haul grease commercially you have to have AT LEAST a commercial haulers license , and a approved truck to put it on . If you are going to go that far you might as well sell the grease for grease and not bother making it into biodiesel , unless you are getting ALOT of oil there is not much real profit in biodiesel . By real profit I mean actual money earned , not a tax incentive . By the time you add up what it costs to setup a commercial scale process plant and get the licenses in place the profit margin is too small for much less than 5,000,000 gallons a year . At that number you will not be getting rich , but you will hava a profit margin representative of your investment .

I have a contract with Marie Calendars to haul off their used cooking grease. (I get two meals for two and two pies per month.) I collect about 80 gallons a month and make about 50 gallons of bio a month. After about 6 months I have accumulated over 300 gallons of used greese. I will hate the have to dispose of it the environental way, and I hate to have it go to waste. I guess I could always feed it to my hogs. Jack.. His: Black 2003 GMC 2500HD 4x4 Crew Cab DM w/6" Lift. I just did the BioDiesel-o-matic calculations, with 1.56 for virgin oil, $4.25 per gallon of Methanol and $5.00 for 500 gms of Lye, it caluclates to $2.76 per gallon of Bio[?] 25 gallons of vigin oil - $39.00 5 gallons of Mehtanol - $25.00 475 grams of Lye - $5.00 25 gallons of bio $69.00 $2.76/gallon of bio Jack.. Re: Extra oil For Sale

Motown - When we go out and set up agreements with resturants, that is what we pay, somewhere between 5 to 10 cents per gallon. That is the going rate, that is what the grease collectors pay resturants to collect their oil. I know this because most of the resturants that we collect from were getting paid that prior to working with us. When we go to a resturant, and they say they are getting paid, we ask how much, when they say 5 cents, we will normally offer 8 to 10 cents, which is an increase for them, if they will work with us instead. We do have business relationships with a lot of resturnat owners outside of the grease and or biodiesel world, and we do get a lot of our waste oil for free which helps, but not much. Using the example of the Marie Calendars, 80 gallons per month is nothing, say $8/month. So we have a lot of resturant owners where we will give them tickets to a UT game and call it all good for the year, or a round of golf, something of that nature. One resturant owners son needs some sponsers for and event, we bought a $100 sponsership at an event, the guy hooked us up with 5 resturants for doing so. Another good example is we worked out a deal with a resturant, that if they gave us their grease, we would have our Christmas party at their resturant, last year we spent $4K at the resturant where we had our Christmas party, so its a win win for everyone. After all business is about relationships more often than about the money. If you go to a grease company who has already picked up the oil and brought it back to their facility, obviously the price would be more, they had to pay to get the oil in the first place, pay the labor and expenses involved in collecting the grease, and the overhead of storing it and the costs of running a business. That is why grease collector charge what they charge. If you buy grease from a grease collector at 15 cents per pound($1.05/gallon), I would argue that you are better of buying Virgin oil. Virgin will cost more, but is 100 times easier to work with, has much higer converstion rate, less waste, no dewatering, and has a much higher tax credit to offset the cost of material. The tax credit on virgin is $1 whereas it is only $.50 for waste oil. So simple math makes Virgin a better option. That is why very few commerical producer fool with waste oil. NeedMorHP - Your math is close, our cost to produce fuel using Virgin Oil is about $2.87/gallon where as our cost to produce fuel using waste oil is about $1.40/gallon. dodgeram is mostly correct in his analogy, there is very little money to be made making fuel to sell on a small scale, I would say it is more like 1,000,000 gallons a year or better to make it worth fooling with in lieu of 5,000,000. dodgeram is also correct that one does need to get a grease haulers/collector license, which I can not remember if it is $200 or $350, but one is required to get one either way to be legal. I could not imagine creating a business plan that revolved around waste grease, its just to unreliable to get and hard to work with/convert to ASTM specs.

    Re: Extra oil For Sale

I guess I beat this horse one more time Marie Calenders was paying $85.00 a year to have the oil removed. We both win, and I make the Bio for personal use. As for the "grease haulers/collector license" is it needed for hauling less than 55 gallons, and where could I get more info about it? Jack.. His: Black 2003 GMC 2500HD 4x4 Crew Cab DM w/6" Lift. NeedMor, don't waste your time. When we got ours, I had a very long talk with the director at the state office who regulates this stuff. He told me straight up, that they do not have enforcement officers or anything like that, and if somehow it came to their attention that someone was picking up oil without the necessary permit, they would just send you a letter, and you would have six months to apply for a license. No fines or punishment involved. He also told me that they were strongly considering changing the rules to allow Biodiesel producers/makers to be exempt from the rule anyway. He said they have received so many calls from Biodiesel people, that they feel they needed to address it. Their main concern and job function is to ensure that grease is not being reintroduced back into the food chain/supply. The state is very aware what is going on with regards to grease and biodiesel, and they support the making of biodiesel with waste grease. If I was you, I would not spend the time, money or grief to deal with this issue unless you had to, IE you got a letter from the state. It is not as simple as paying a fee, there is a bunch of crap that one has to do to get the license, while the cost is minimal, the crap you have to do is a serious PIA.
