I live in Plainfield CT and would be interested in a group buy. I'm having trouble finding a distributor that doesn't hang up the phone when I say "menthanol". Do you have a distributor in mind?

Currently I get my methanol from New England Race Fuels in Burlington CT. Last drum I bought was $250. No permits required - just drive your truck up and they load it with a forklift. I called Univar USA in Providence, RI. They are B2B only but if we pose as a coop, they will sell it to us . . . maybe. I called last week and they grilled me about who I was, what kind of operation I had, residential or commercial only to tell me in the end that there is a major shortage of Methanol right now and they could only supply their regular customers. They said to check back in mid October. Power-mist Racing Products sells methanol to New England Racing fuels. They are out of Newton, NJ. I have their contact info and was going to call them to find out what their minimum order size is. I'd really like to smoke out the homebrewers in this state so that we can stay in contact about stuff like this but homebrewers are like the old rum runners - don't like to give out too much information in the event the Feds are watching :)

I live in New Haven and am in exactly the same boat. I grew up in Burlington and know the owners of New England Racing Fuels...they're rip-off artists. I think we should activate our buying power to go to the source and buy wholesale. I'm building a processor in my garage as we speak. I expect to need upwards of 20 gallons of meth myself. I have both truck and trailer to go pick this stuff up. I also just picked up a a caged 350 gallon poly tank to mount to my trailer if we want to buy in more "bulk". Trying to fry my '95 Tahoe Diesel

Re: methanol group buy in CT

Hey All. Just got off the phone with POwerMist Fuels(where most New England race fuel suppliers get their methanol). He would be glad to deal with us directly...no licenses needed. Price breakdown as follows for 50 gallon drums: 1-24 drums, $206 25-49 drums, $178 50+ drums, $163 New England Race Fuels just bought 25 drums from him and had them delivered to Burlington, CT. The shipping charge was about $750 they said(about $30 drum). I called NERF in Burlington this morning and they are selling drums for $262. This means that NERF is tacking on about $64 a drum, or $1.28 a gallon. Like I said in previous post, those guys are bandits...I grew up with them. Would anyone be interested in putting in a bulk order of 25 drums to be delivereded to central New England, maybe Springfield or Worcester? We'd each be saving at least $60 a drum. At that price, assuming your using a 20% methanol formula, you would be dropping the price of your biodiesel production by $ .26 a gallon. Seems like a no-brainer for me. Put me down for 2 or 3 barrels for me alone. By the way, PowerMist told be there is a worldwide freeze on the stuff which is why the price shot up this summer. He expects the price to go up $.80/ gallon ($40/drum) in the next two weeks. They are hoping it will begin to subside when the 120 day freeze is over (about 90 days from now). We need to act quick now or wait until the end of January. Trying to fry my '95 Tahoe Diesel

I've fired off a couple emails to FriedTahoe and thought I should restate the fact that I'm still VERY interested. I too called Univar and got grilled on my intentions. My wife has a registered home business so I could say it's for glycerin/soap production but I prefer to not get her involved at all. I'd rather keep my mouth shut then lie. My biggest issue is I don't have a truck and I will be brewing at my residence. This makes delivery difficult. However I am willing to chip in for gas :). I even have a few gallons of bio for powering a diesel truck to retrieve said methanol. As I told FriedTahoe I'm getting frustrated and I need to either make bio or buy #2. It's getting colder and my oil tank is nearly empty. Like "below the empty line" kind of empty.

Friedtahoe, Thanks for doing the legwork on this. I think I will be winding down my operation for the winter in a few weeks and I have enough Methanol until then. But I will definately be good for 3-5 kegs in the early Spring. Let's keep talking this up and see if we can corale some of the folks in MA and RI to join us. Did you happen to find out if the delivery truck comes with a forklift? We'll need to figure a way to get it off the truck. Northern tools sells a fairly inexpensive barrel lift that we could hang on the beam of a building or a tree limb to get it from the ground into our individual trucks. Mavstang73 - if you want to buy some methanol by the gallon just to make some test batches, I'd be willing to sell you a few at my cost. But you are right, to do biodiesel, you really need a truck or a trailer to haul supplies and WVO. dt

I am about 8 miles west of Bradley Airport. I would be interested in getting in on a group buy. My porblem is that I am just starting and trying to honemy porcess. Post holiday holiday season would be best for me. I do have a large garage that could house many barrels for a short while. Let me know

Just bumping this to the top.  I am now set up with a processor and would be interested in getting in on a group buy for methanol and other supplies. Spring is coming.

We're getting ready to set up our spring methanol group buy in central CT.  The delivery is in Berlin right off Rte 9.  Don't have any prices yet but looking to generate some interest.  Looks like we have 4 barrels right now.  The more we buy, the cheaper it gets.  Contact me here or off list for more info.

I would be interested in a couple of drums.  Berlin is only 20 minutes from me, and I have a pickup truck.  Is a forklift available to get them into a pickup?

Yes, there is a forklift.  I'll put you down for 2 barrels and get back to you on the price.  Also, anyone interested in KOH or NaOH I believe I can get those in bulk as well.

I could use some NaOH.  Let me know when and the prices of each/
