    beckett gun problems

I have been having problems getting B100 to light off in my boiler. I have a beckett AFG (6 years old) installed webster bio pump, Changer the head from an F3 to an F0, went from a .75 nozzel to a .50 experimenting with each change. IT WILL NOT FIRE. My bio is fine, I took some over to a friend's house (he burns B100 in an old boiler) and it lit off just fine. Anyone out there with any explanations ???????

I assume you have checked all of the filter in line to the pump and have adequate flow. Have you adjusted your air intake to compensate for the nozzle change? I have a carlin burner and reduced the nozzle from 1.75 to 1.5, I also increased the nozzle angle from 60 to 70. In doing this I had to nearly halve the amount of air coming into the burner. Alos have you cleaned the chamber and flue? I do not know much about Beckett burners but I assume they are not to different. Make sure you are getting a good spark from the electrodes, if you are getting spark does the fuel ignite while the spark is being generated? Have you verified that the CAD eye is working properly, If not replace it, they are cheap.

    Good Luck.

Yes-----I have done all of the above. The only thing I haven't done is turn down the air intake. I'm already down there pretty good  the air band is set at "0" and the air shutter is set "10". That's the setting for this gun burning HHO. Should I try it again with less air flow???????

Hello , I have been in the HVAC Industry for 25 years... I would first see if you purged all the air from the pump,( Bleeder looks like a brake line bleeder fitting, If you are qualified to do so ... test your Ignition transformer to see if there is enough spark. If the previous tests are ok then I would look at the electrodes alignment , this also can affect the ignition process. You can also check your burner coupling to see if is turning you fuel pump. I noticed you installed the webster pump. Was the burner coupling properly inserted into the pump ?

Try these and see if it helps . If all else fails .. call on you dependable oil burner tech. He wil be able to solve your problem

    Re: beckett gun problems

I am not familiar with the Beckett AFG. I would have to assume that all burners are pretty similar though. I have a Carlin When I changed to 100 % bio I changed to a Webster pump installed a pressure gauge boosted pump pressure to 120-130 psi. due to viscosity of bio. the the gun assembly sits within a flame tube, I cleaned the flame tube and painted with a high temp. silver paint to reflect the flame brightness for the photo cell. I also opened up the air vent to draw more air in for the combustion fire. I would say check pump pressure first, 120-130 psi should be where you want to be. Check flame tube, clean and paint silver. Replace CAD cell if cell is yellowed, should be nice and clear cheap fix for me I think $2.50 Do this check for combustion thru sight window adjust flame by decreaseing air first to first hints of smoke thanopen vent up slowly till you start to see flame tails off of main burn. DO NOT ALLOW FLAME TO CONTACT REFRACTORY MATERIAL AT BACK OF BURN CHAMBER ie fire brick or thermal fire material. Hope this helps. Joe.D
