    Production of biodiesel

O.K.  I am new to biodiesel and new to the forum.  I am a small business owner with a few diesel vehicles. I have been dealing with the same diesel prices as everyone else, and have really been thinking about biodiesl.  I am really interested in building my own processor, and have been researching the processing procedure.  I thought about buying the biopro, but cant put out the money.  I have a few reastuarants that i can get my oil, but am still affraid of the shortage that could become.  So since I am a plumber and can always get my hands on water heaters really easy, i have been trying to figure out a way of making my own processor.  I am a decent welder and up to the challange of building my own.  I was thinking of a fifty gallon water heater as a pre heater, then making a processor out of fifty five gallon drums like the murphy machines.  I would use there plans for the processor and wash tank.  I would like to have multiple wash tanks to be able to process more during the wash cycle, and then the drying cycle i am still not sure on that process.  I have been reading various web sites, and most are dealers of processors.  I really need a homebrewers input on my questions, not a salesmen. what would be you suggestions.  Thanks for your input.

Welcome to the site, Mplumb59. Check out the Collaborative Biodiesel Tutorial for a decent write-up on how to build what's called an "Appleseed Processor" for short money.

You would probably find a Girl Mark class very helpful, if you are anywhere near one. See the thread at http://www.biodieselnow.com/forums/t/20380.aspx

Sounds like you've got a pretty good handle on what to do.  But you should try processing a few small batches (search for "Dr Peper Method") to learn the tricks of the process and see what works best for you.  then you can incorporate those lessons into your processor design.Big Smile
