Re: Where to get biodiesel in New England
By the way, I followed the directions that Burke Oil provides on their website and it's for their offices/depot, not their fuel station. There is at least a 2 mile difference.
The price on April 3 was $1.99/gallon.

From what I know, yes they do. But you have to get there during the day, during the week.

"Do Dog River and Homestead sell road-legal ASTM-certified bio"
Do we really care?
If the question is one of certification, the only people who really care are the E.P.A. And I've haven't read anywhere any challenge
from anyone , that homebrew biodiesel isn't as clean and safe to use
as NBB board ( not ASTM ) biodiesel. Remember, all the ASTM certifying in the world won't help you with the EPA unless you can prove you're a NBB member!
Yellowbiodiesel did make some bad batches that caused Jon B. and ?
major headaches cleaning out his TDI's fuel tanks, twice.
I used the same bd w/o problems because I was lucky enough to have a large 100 gallon tank that allowed the unreacted glycerin to settle.
Tom warned me before I bought it, that it wasn't a good batch.
Allowing hombrew to settle is a good idea for all bd'ers.
I used about 120 gallons of it before I got a more conveniant setup.
I still would if I lived in W. Mass.

Re: Where to get biodiesel in New England
Sorry, Jim, but it IS relevant and most people DO care. As soon as folks who aren't as dedicated as Jon get clogged running biodiesel, they'll stop using it, and anytime it comes up in conversation, they'll tell their tale and scare people off. That will do more damage than good. So, if folks want to run biodiesel "degreaser" or non-certified fuel, that's fine. But they have to do it with open eyes that they're taking a risk (both with their car and with the government) that they could have some issues.
I won't put non-ASTM certified bio in my car, and I know a lot of folks will feel the same way. I can't change a fuel filter on the fly, nor would I want to be stuck on the highway with a clogged fuel filter. Most people don't carry a spare, and wouldn't know how to replace it if they did.

Re: Where to get biodiesel in New England
Ok, different fuels for different folks. :)
I guess I'd put them between selfmade homebrew
and the big commercial suppliers. More conveniant
but still risky. Just read of a guy who got stuck in CO
on purchased homebrew. It definately happens.
Most of the CT co-op's members agree with you.
Thanks for not deleting their links.

Non ASTM BD may be fine for heating oil, But I would'nt suggest using it in a motor.

Re: Where to get biodiesel in New England
Brennan Oil in North Providence RI has been supplying the Warwick School Department with B100 and say they will fill 55 gallon drums etc. for home heating use. They are out of stock now but are planning on restocking. I hope they don't wait for September.
I talked to Dennis, who said they send a truck to pick up B100 and then dispense from the truck (at their yard, unless one were to arrange otherwise).
This looks good for RI!

Re: Where to get biodiesel in New England
There is presently no information about biodiesel at
www.co-opplus.com, so I called them for an update:
The phone number on the website is for a related organization in Greenfield, not for Co-op Plus in Holyoke. The number for the Holyoke location is 413-538-8000. They are open 8am - 4:30pm M-F and they are located in Holyoke at the corner of Sargent and South Canal Streets. (Not far from the first I-91 exit south of Northampton.)
B100 is available for $3.29 per gal incl. taxes from the bulk tank only during the hours above. B20 is available to the public from a pump for $2.29/gal during the hours above. You can also apply for an access card to able to use the pump any time.
Co-op Plus is going through some reorganization and they hope to redo their website to include biodiesel information soon.
